We're searching for a Process Control Engineer. In this role, you'll support a cutting-edge research laboratory by building, wiring, integrating, and maintaining electrical and controls systems used across laboratory equipment and instrumentation. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on electrical work, troubleshooting, and working closely with engineers and scientists in a fast-paced research environment.
Responsibilities- Build, wire, and integrate electrical control panels, instrumentation, and laboratory equipment based on engineering drawings and specifications
- Support the installation and integration of sensors, valves, flow controllers, thermocouples, and other electrical and controls hardware
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and equipment documentation
- Assist with electrical CAD drawings, equipment layouts, redlines, and design updates
- Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, and controls issues using appropriate testing and measurement equipment
- Support the selection and installation of wiring, cables, relays, breakers, terminal blocks, enclosures, and related electrical components
- Maintain accurate drawings, bills of materials, equipment documentation, and revision records
- Work closely with engineers and technical teams to support equipment builds, modifications, testing, and laboratory projects
- Follow established electrical safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), while maintaining a safe and organized work environment
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, controls, materials science, physics, chemistry, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands‑on technical experience
- Hands‑on instrumentation and controls experience, including low‑voltage electrical wiring and control panel/enclosure fabrication
- Experience wiring and integrating instrumentation such as mass flow controllers, pressure transducers, solenoid valves, thermocouples, and similar devices
- Ability to read electrical schematics and build or modify equipment from technical drawings
- Experience using digital multimeters, voltage meters, current measurement tools, and other electrical test equipment
- Familiarity with electrical components including wiring, relays, circuit breakers, terminal blocks, cables, and enclosures
- Experience working with digital and analog I/O and industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, RS-232/485, or Modbus
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar electrical CAD tools
- Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and electrical safety practices
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain clear technical documentation and work effectively in a fast‑paced laboratory environment
- Experience working with vacuum systems, glove boxes, cryogenic equipment, or inert‑atmosphere systems
- Familiarity with laboratory automation, data acquisition, or LIMS/LES platforms
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining laboratory instrumentation or electro‑mechanical equipment
- Familiarity with electrical standards such as NFPA 70 (NEC), UL 508A, or NFPA 79
- Experience with Beckhoff controls, I/O modules, IPCs, or EtherCAT systems
- Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 or similar engineering drawing standards
- Previous experience supporting materials science, semiconductor, chemistry, or research laboratory environments
