About the role:

Lead gas and fuel supply strategy for Portsmouth Power. This role owns the fuel supply plan, natural gas transportation strategy, pipeline and utility interfaces, fuel reliability requirements, commercial supply options, market/risk analysis, nomination/scheduling readiness, fuel-related permitting and engineering inputs, and coordination with power generation, commercial/offtake, procurement, engineering, controls, and delivery.

What success looks like in the first 6-12 months
  • Fuel supply strategy established, including demand profile, reliability requirements, supply sources, transportation options, pipeline/LDC/interface requirements, fallback options, and commercial risk exposure.
  • Gas/fuel assumptions integrated into project basis of design, power configuration, permitting strategy, commercial/offtake model, procurement plan, and master schedule.
  • Pipeline/interconnection responsibilities, regulatory path, tariff considerations, and contractual pathways identified with decision points for leadership.
  • Preliminary fuel economics, price exposure, firm/interruptible transportation options, balancing, winter reliability, and operational flexibility assumptions documented.
  • Fuel supply risks made visible in the program risk register with mitigation owners and decision deadlines.
Key responsibilities
  • Develop and own the Portsmouth gas/fuel supply strategy, including load/fuel demand profiles, reliability requirements, supply options, transportation pathways, pipeline/LDC interfaces, fuel quality, balancing, and backup/contingency concepts.
  • Lead commercial and technical evaluation of natural gas supply, transportation, storage, pipeline capacity, interconnects, compression, metering, pressure, fuel gas conditioning, and delivery reliability options.
  • Coordinate with Engineering & Technical to ensure fuel requirements, pipeline interface, pressure/quality assumptions, metering, controls, safety, emissions, site layout, and commissioning needs are reflected in design and procurement packages.
  • Coordinate with Commercial, Contracts & Offtake on gas supply agreements, transportation agreements, balancing services, fuel risk allocation, pass-through/cost recovery, hedging strategy inputs, and offtake/customer implications.
  • Coordinate with Program Controls to integrate gas supply milestones, studies, interconnection work, permits, contracts, pipeline capacity decisions, and commissioning requirements into the master schedule and risk register.
  • Coordinate with Procurement on fuel-related equipment or services where required, including metering, regulation, compression, pipe, gas conditioning, controls, and related long-lead items.
  • Engage pipelines, LDCs, marketers, utilities, consultants, regulatory stakeholders, and potential fuel suppliers to understand commercial availability, technical constraints, timing, and risk.
  • Support fuel-related permitting, environmental, air emissions, water, safety, and regulatory inputs in coordination with Permitting & External Approvals and Engineering.
