Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Scientist / Senior Scientist – Biosensor Performance

Who we are:

Adaptyx Biosciences is a deep-tech biosensing company developing a platform for continuous, multi-analyte molecular monitoring. Our focus is to extend biochemical measurements beyond snapshots-in-time (i.e., periodic blood testing) by building the world’s first truly generalizable continuous biosensing platform.

We are developing a wearable patch that makes molecular trends visible between clinic visits, capturing continuous data that can reveal changes early, guide decisions with greater confidence, and reduce avoidable deterioration. We believe the rapid and accurate quantification of biomarkers will unlock new insights and provide immense value across health and wellness.

Our technology is backed by over 17 years of pioneering academic research, and our team includes leading academic researchers in continuous sensing technology, serial entrepreneurs, and experienced operators and investors. We are looking for passionate, hardworking, and talented individuals to join our team and help revolutionize healthcare.

About this role:

We are seeking a scientifically rigorous and highly quantitative individual contributor to lead the testing and optimization of biosensor analytical performance s role will focus on increasing the reproducibility, stability, and level of analytical validation of Adaptyx’s biosensor technology.

You will design and execute structured performance studies to evaluate accuracy, precision, drift, linearity, interference, and robustness across in vitro and translational settings. Using statistical methods and regulatory-aligned frameworks (including FDA guidance and CLSI standards), you will ensure that our performance testing studies are rigorous, reproducible, and ready for regulatory scrutiny. You will define performance metrics, identify sources of variability, isolate root causes, and collaborate on data-driven optimization of sensor chemistry, calibration, manufacturing, and system design.

You will work cross-functionally with engineering, chemistry, and clinical teams while maintaining ownership of analytical performance evaluation and interpretation.

The ideal candidate is fluent in experimental design and statistics, eager to rapidly learn about a wide range of interdisciplinary scientific topics, and experienced in analytical validation for regulated medical devices. This role requires intellectual independence, strong attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary startup environment.

Core responsibilities:
  • Design and execute structured analytical studies to evaluate accuracy, precision, drift, interference, and robustness.
  • Define and maintain key performance metrics, acceptance criteria, and statistical frameworks aligned with FDA guidance and CLSI standards. Author and review performance-related sections of regulatory filings to ensure data are defensible and reproducible.
  • Identify sources of variability and performance degradation using rigorous experimental design and statistical analysis. Design stability and stress-testing studies to assess biosensor robustness.
  • Isolate root causes and collaborate cross-functionally to implement data-driven corrective actions.
Other important responsibilities:
  • Support manufacturing scale-up by evaluating lot-to-lot consistency and process-driven variability.
  • Contribute analytical expertise to strategic technical initiatives, leading projects across a variety of technical areas as needed.
  • Mentor and train junior staff.
Required qualifications:
  • PhD in chemical engineering, bioengineering, chemistry, biochemistry, or related quantitative discipline with 2+ years of relevant industry experience, or BS/MS with 6+ years of relevant industry experience in medical devices, biosensors, diagnostics, or related regulated fields
  • Direct experience designing and executing analytical performance or validation studies in an industry setting.
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis, experimental design (DOE), and method comparison studies.
  • Familiarity with FDA guidance and CLSI standards related to analytical validation.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify root causes of performance variability and translate findings into actionable improvements.
  • Excellent technical writing skills, including experience preparing validation reports, memos, and regulatory documentation.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, cross-functional startup environment.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience with aptamer-based or nucleic acid-based biosensors.
  • Experience with continuous monitoring technologies (e.g., CGM or related wearable sensing platforms).
  • Experience with surface bioconjugation chemistry.
  • Prior involvement in preparing or supporting regulatory submissions for Class II medical devices, including analytical validation documentation.
