Position Overview

The SLAC Controller's Office is seeking a technically curious, analytically minded problem solver who excels at analyzing financial data within enterprise systems and who proactively identifies and implements process and control improvements to serve as a Financial Systems Analyst. This role sits at the intersection of finance, data, and technology, translating business needs into practical tools and automated solutions that help the Controller's Office operate more efficiently and make better informed decisions.

The position operates within a federally funded research environment and requires close adherence to internal controls, audit readiness, and Department of Energy (DOE) and Stanford University financial requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Controller Office's subject matter expert for technology and financial data support, partnering with accounting and finance staff to improve workflows and reporting.
  • Automate recurring processes and manual tasks using available tools (e.g., reporting automation, data integration, workflow improvements) to reduce error risk, strengthen internal controls, and improve the consistency and auditability of financial reporting.
  • Design and maintain automated data validations and reconciliations to detect anomalies and support ongoing audit readiness.
  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions, documenting processes and ensuring knowledge transfer within the team.
  • Support data migration, integration, and system configuration activities by evaluating data structures, validating data quality, and assisting with system implementation and design planning.
  • Support system operations by managing user permissions, documenting business and system processes, troubleshooting technical and workflow issues, and supporting operational continuity.
  • Analyze, produce, and distribute standard and custom reports, dashboards, and performance metrics for audit support and management reporting.
  • Research, reconcile, and resolve data discrepancies across multiple financial and reporting systems to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and reporting reliability.
  • Support data governance initiatives, data standards implementation, and change management processes to improve data management practices across financial systems by contributing to the definition, documentation, and enforcement of financial data standards, access controls, and change management practices.
  • Participate in system testing, validation, and software release processes while providing functional‑technical support to business users.
  • May perform moderately complex finance functions and/or activities, including monitoring accounts, preparing documentation, expenditure reconciliations and reviews, revenue reporting/accounting, general ledger transactions, and journal entries.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and three years relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Functional‑technical experience supporting enterprise financial and business systems, including system configuration support, data integration, reporting, and workflow implementation.
  • Experience querying and analyzing structured data using SQL or similar tools to support reporting development, data validation, and discrepancy resolution.
  • Knowledge of data architecture concepts including data flows, data structures, data quality validation, and system‑to‑system integration.
  • Experience supporting system testing, user acceptance testing, and validation of new system functionality, configurations, and software releases.
  • Ability to analyze business and functional requirements and translate them into system configurations, reporting solutions, or workflow improvements.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data security, and change control practices in enterprise system environments.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot functional and technical system issues and recommend solutions to maintain operational continuity.
  • Strong documentation, process mapping, and stakeholder communication skills with ability to support functional‑technical collaboration between business and technical teams.
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience with Oracle People Soft Financials and Supply Chain Management.
  • Experience with Oracle Financial Management.
  • Experience supporting financial or business systems in government‑funded, regulated, or audit‑intensive environments (e.g., national laboratories, higher education, research institutions).
  • Experience working with internal controls and audit compliance.
