Position Summary: The Manufacturing Assembler III reports to the Director of Manufacturing. The role plays a pivotal part in the Vertex PE System manufacturing line, assembling complex medical devices (with a focus on catheter products) in a regulated cleanroom environment. This position requires advanced assembly skills, knowledge of medical device manufacturing protocols, and a strong commitment to product quality and compliance.
Responsibilities include utilizing precision tools and equipment, adhering to GMP, and mentoring less experienced team members. The role offers an opportunity to impact patient safety and product excellence by advancing manufacturing operational effectiveness and fostering continuous improvement and workplace safety.
To thrive in this role, the ideal candidate will bring experience in advanced catheter manufacturing processes such as coil winding/braiding, hydrophilic coating, lamination, and adhesive bonding. The position suits a fast-paced, start-up environment and includes cross-training across multiple processes. The candidate should demonstrate grit, a growth mindset, and a relentless commitment to high-quality throughput, collaboration within a diverse team, and regulatory compliance.
This is an in-office role.
Responsibilities- Precisely assemble catheters and other medical devices following detailed work instructions and established quality standards.
- Perform intricate assembly tasks using hand tools, microscopes, and specialized equipment (bonding, sealing, lamination).
- Perform in-process inspections and functional testing to ensure components and finished products meet specifications.
- Accurately document inspection results, lot traceability, and production data according to SOPs and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in productivity, process, and quality improvement activities.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to suggest and implement enhancements to procedures and equipment.
- Support validation processes for new assembly methods and tooling.
- Onboard and provide ongoing skills development for junior assemblers, emphasizing proper technique, safety, and quality.
- Contribute to creation and revision of training materials and operating instructions.
- Diagnose and resolve minor assembly and equipment issues to minimize downtime.
- Partner with engineering to ensure equipment and tools are maintained, calibrated, and fit for use.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in a related field preferred.
- Proven experience, typically 6+ years in medical device assembly, preferably with catheter manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of GMP, FDA, and ISO regulations in a medical device environment; adherence to hygiene and gowning protocols required.
- Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, work instructions, and technical manuals.
- Experience leading or training others in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Exceptional manual dexterity and ability to operate small hand tools, measurement devices, and equipment, including working with small components under a microscope.
- Proven ability to follow complex work instructions with high accuracy.
- Ability to train and guide junior staff.
