Registered Nurse (RN) General Purpose
The primary responsibility of this position is to supervise the day‑to‑day nursing activities of the facility during your tour of duty in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.

Administrative Functions- Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing nursing activities in accordance with rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures governing the department.
- Ensure reference material (PDRs, regulations, professional standards) at nurses’ stations is current.
- Maintain an up‑to‑date Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
- Ensure nursing personnel comply with the manual.
- Make written and oral reports to the Director regarding department operations.
- Review and recommend revisions to policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions.
- Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care.
- Ensure compliance with personnel job descriptions.
- Help implement the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
- Participate in facility surveys conducted by authorized agencies.
- Review and update resident discharge plans as required.
- Plan nursing services for resident discharge and report as necessary.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and support personnel on department services, programs, and activities.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
- Complete accident/incident reports.
- Interpret policies and procedures for personnel, residents, visitors, and agencies.
- Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, and charting.
- Maintain confidentiality of user IDs and passwords, reporting any violations.
- Protect resident protected health information and report violations.
- Report suspected unauthorized attempts to access the facility’s information system.
- Attend required committee meetings (Infection Control, Policy Advisory, etc.).
- Prepare written and oral reports of nursing service programs for committees.
- Provide information to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee.
- Help develop agendas for Care Plan Committee meetings.
- Review discharge plans for Care Plan Committee and implement committee recommendations.
- Ensure sufficient licensed practical and registered nurses and certified nursing assistants for the tour of duty.
- Develop work assignments and delegate administrative authority to Charge Nurses.
- Ensure nursing aides are trained and supervised by a licensed nurse.
- Make daily rounds to confirm staff compliance with standards.
- Monitor absenteeism and report problems to the Director.
- Enforce dress codes, policies, and procedures.
- Review and address staff complaints and grievances.
- Maintain positive relationships with inter‑department personnel.
- Create a warm, calm environment throughout the unit.
- Conduct regular shift meetings to identify and correct problems.
- Review workforce composition and provide recommendations.
- Evaluate employee performance and make staffing recommendations.
- Administer disciplinary action fairly and without discrimination.
- Report occupational exposures and incidents of fraud.
- Ensure computer workstations are logged off or protected as policy requires.
- Inform staff of new admissions and room assignments.
- Prepare rooms for new residents and greet them upon admission.
- Assist physicians as needed and encourage timely documentation.
- Consult with residents, families, and physicians to plan care and treatment.
- Notify physicians and next of kin when a resident’s condition changes.
- Visit residents daily to assess physical and emotional status.
- Ensure direct nursing care is provided by qualified personnel.
- Review nurses’ notes for completeness and relevance.
- Provide direct nursing care including IVs, specimen collection, and vital signs.
