Position: District Coordinator - Office of Senator Becker (Menlo Park, CA)

Provides mental health nursing services to seriously mentally ill adults and/or seniors on a multidisciplinary specialty team. May provide expert direct service, information, and education to staff, agencies, and the community; performs related work as required.

Agency / Department

Health Care Agency/Ventura County Medical Center-IPU & Behavioral Health. Mental Health Nurse III is represented by the California Nurses Association and is eligible for overtime compensation.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, with a multidisciplinary team, health service programs to meet the needs of mentally ill patients. Initiate and conduct regular evaluation and revision of the nursing personnel and functioning inpatient unit.
  • Assist with evaluation and review of total program. Develop and assign a staffing pattern that facilitates implementation of the service program. Assist in recruitment and hiring of nursing personnel.
  • Orient new nursing employees, students, volunteers, and other professional groups.
  • May supervise and evaluate staff in employee development and work performance. Supervise nursing employees in development and implementation of effective treatment plans, proper medication procedures, proper use and maintenance of equipment, and effective relationships with staff and other agencies.
  • Assist in budgetary and program planning and evaluation.
  • May supervise field placement of students from various health training programs.
  • In individual units, may render expert, direct service to a regular caseload of patients and their families.
  • Provide consultation, information and education to other concerned individuals, groups and agencies.
  • May provide direct, expert emergency mental health service to persons in crisis and their families.
  • Provide information, education or consultation to other social agencies, law enforcement and community referral resources.
Typical Qualifications

Requires graduation from an accredited school of nursing, plus four years of professional nursing experience, including two years in mental health nursing, with one of those years in a charge capacity. Some of the experience must have been in the area of specialization. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing may be substituted for one year of experience, and a Master’s degree in Nursing for two years of the required experience.

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of California.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certificate prior to the first day of employment.
