Process Engineering Associate I/II, Oncology

Join a growing Process Engineering team in support of clinical patient testing in our high‑throughput CLIA lab. The PEA I is responsible for developing new tools for improved clinical workflow efficiency, analyzing process data to monitor and troubleshoot high‑throughput assays, and identifying root causes of recurring errors with proper documentation to enable long‑term corrective actions. This role offers experience in process engineering, data analysis, experimental design, automation, and coding in Python and R within a dynamic clinical laboratory environment.

The position is onsite in Menlo Park.

Responsibilities
  • Apply sound engineering practices to scale, optimize, and improve molecular biology methods.
  • Conduct experiments to identify, isolate, and confirm root causes of process errors in a high‑throughput molecular biology lab.
  • Develop methods to compile and analyze large amounts of process data to assess process stability, trending, and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement software tools to aid efficient sample processing within the clinical laboratory.
  • Use software tools to quantitatively analyze process efficiency and sources of error; moderate proficiency in R or Python required.
  • Identify root causes for process and instrument errors and develop short‑term and long‑term solutions.
  • Develop effective training plans for clinical personnel on modified or improved workflows.
  • Support transfer of new technology from R&D teams to the CLIA lab.
  • Generate proper documentation for all troubleshooting and qualification activities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in biology or a related clinical science.
  • At least 6 months of experience with molecular biology techniques in a research or clinical laboratory.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Logical troubleshooting skills.
  • Previous automation or clinical laboratory experience is preferred.
Nice‑to‑Haves
  • Experience with next‑generation sequencing (NGS).
  • Knowledge of molecular oncology.
  • Experience in a cell‑free DNA setting.
Compensation

Compensation includes a total package of $104,322 per year, with a base pay range of $75,029‑$85,748 per year.
