About the Department and RoleJob Train has a strong relationship with the San Mateo County Sherriff's Department and currently provide work readiness, employment training,special programs, and services for incarcerated people, and returning citizens who have been justice involved.
The Maple Street Correctional Center (MSCC), located at 1300 Maple Street in Redwood City, provides rehabilitation programs and service for those who identify as male, female, or other. The MSCC staff ensures that individuals:
1) appear in court and complete their jail sentence;
2) are provided with medical, nutritional, hygienic, legal and spiritual programs and services to meet their needs; and,
3) receive services designed to provide opportunities to improve their lives, both during and after their release with the objective of reducing their chance of recidivism.
Job Train is looking for a skilled facilitator for ourLife Skills and Substance Abuseclassesprovided at the Maple Street Correctional Center. This position and programming will add to the existing classroom, programs and services offered at the facility.
The Life Skills and Substance Abuse Counselor will develop and deliver training based on specific program need or the individual's assessed needsand provide recovery resources for individuals postrelease.

Emotional Intelligence
Adapting to Change
Conflict Resolution
Anger Management
Cognitive Behavioral Intervention
Interpersonal Skills
Finding Balance
The Life Skills and Substance Abuse Counselor will also provide individual and group facilitation in Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI) to help inmates examine their own thoughts and emotions, recognize when negative thoughts and emotions are escalating in intensity, and then use strategies to change their thinking and behavior.
This is an onsite position, M-F,40 hours per week.
Responsibilities:Leadwith the development of theLife Skills and Substance Abusecurriculum
Facilitatelife managementclasses, success coaching and CBI, and other related workshops
Provide Substancecounseling/coaching sessions to participants
Coordinate with Job Train and other programsinside and outside the facility
Attend meetings, as needed, provide reports, as needed, and other related duties as assigned

The specific qualifications for this role are listed below.
Must currently be aCertified SUD Counselor (CADTP, CCAPP or CAADE)
Experienced in implementing best practices such as trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, CBT, and similar approaches.
Experience maintaining classroom control and ahealthylearning environment.
Experience developing curriculum and delivering training and/or facilitating workshops
Experience teaching / training at HS level or higher
Experience with coaching / counseling HS level or higher
