The Process Engineer role requires a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Pulp and Paper Engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience. Ideal candidates demonstrate strong analytical capabilities, including the ability to work with and interpret large data sets, and possess a solid understanding of paper making test methods and process data interpretation. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is required, along with clear verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross‑functional teams, suppliers, and leadership.
A successful candidate will also be technically curious, detail‑oriented, and committed to staying current with industry advancements.
On a day‑to‑day basis, the Process Engineer is responsible for leading process optimization and continuous improvement initiatives across paper manufacturing operations. This includes coordinating and executing trials, analyzing costs and savings, identifying risks and benefits, and documenting results and recommendations for the business. The role involves collecting, trending, and analyzing quality, cost, and raw material data to proactively identify and resolve issues, as well as updating production specifications to maintain quality while minimizing costs.
The Process Engineer works closely with production crews, the Quality team, chemical suppliers, and Environmental and Safety leadership to troubleshoot issues, implement process improvements, reduce environmental impact, and ensure products consistently meet all quality specifications.
