Job Summary
Under the direction of the Molding Set‑Up Operator, operate and maintain compression injection molding machines and several deburring operation machines such as a wheelabrator, degater, and tumbler. Operate and maintain molding presses, ensuring proper temperatures, cycle time, and vacuum units. Assist with the removal and installation of molds from presses and load parts into the appropriate deburring machine. Check molded parts for dimension, finish, and remove flash.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Assist the Molding Set‑Up Technician on the molding presses to run presses and maintain proper temperatures and set cycle times for molding.
- Learn to start up presses and take on more advanced duties over time.
- Recognize defective materials, parts, and machine malfunctions.
- Keep molds clean and vents open by fiber‑brushing molds on an hourly basis.
- Load and operate wheelabrator/tumbler to remove flash/scale from parts for the specified finish. Perform uniform cleaning necessary for molders to operate properly and avoid damage to or breakage of parts.
- Assist lapping operation by processing parts for lapping and vision system inspection.
- If parts require degating, load parts in the degater hopper and adjust abrasive and cycling time to suit cleaning requirements.
- Work on generally close tolerance jobs where dimensional and surface finish requirements are not difficult to maintain due to machine setups of cycling time and feed of abrasive.
- Operate and maintain all machinery according to training instructions and inspect product.
- GED preferred.
Job Duties
- Fundamental knowledge of machine shop operations, as acquired by short job training and experience.
- 2+ years machine operation experience.
Physical demands of the position include standing, walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle or touch parts, reaching above shoulders, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, talking or hearing, tasting or smelling, and using feet to operate machines. The job may require lifting and carrying weights up to 100 pounds.

The work environment may include quiet, moderate noise (lower decibel levels from machines), loud noise (normal shop conditions but under 85 decibels), and very loud noise (85 decibels or more). Exposure to the following conditions may occur: wet, humid conditions; work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions;
extreme cold (non‑weather); extreme heat (non‑weather); risk of electrical shock; vibration; and work/job related travel.
Safety glasses are required. Non‑slip work shoes are required (steel toes not required). Ear plugs are not required but are available.
