The Finance Division within the Department of Administration is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will perform a broad range of accounting functions that support the organization's financial operations, maintain accurate financial records, and help ensure continuity of Finance services.

The anticipated starting wage is between $23.38/hr and $25.20/hr.
Primary ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Enter invoices for payment to the appropriate grant or funding source, track payments, and maintain accounting records.
- Provide guidance on financial procedures and next steps, assist in troubleshooting financial system issues, and support staff with finance-related questions to ensure accurate and efficient financial operations.
- Prepare and mail monthly invoices for services provided to smaller departments requiring billing assistance.
- Review monthly General Ledger postings to ensure the accuracy of expense and revenue transactions. Research and request or enter journal entries as needed.
- Assist with audit requests and assigned year-end processes.
- Prepare monthly detail and summary reports on program activities and financial data for multiple programs and grants.
- Provide backup support for Accounts Payable (AP) and Payroll processing.
- Perform other duties of a comparable level and type, as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Associate's Degree in Accounting or other related field.
- Requires a minimum of two (2) years previous budgeting, accounting and/or bookkeeping experience.
- Valid driver's license or the ability to travel between work locations.
- Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.

QUALIFICATIONS
In order to perform the duties of the Accounting Specialist position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are essential for Accounting Specialist to possess.
- Knowledge of general office procedures and practices
- Knowledge of governmental accounting procedures and operations.
- Knowledge of billing, collection and reimbursement practices, guidelines, requirements and rules pertaining to department assignment.
- Knowledge of customer/client service etiquette.
- Knowledge of computer operation and use including accounting software, business productivity software and specialized accounting software/applications utilized by the department.
- Skill in using, maintaining, enhancing and implementing financial software applications, databases and spreadsheets.
- Skill in implementing, monitoring and maintaining accounting records, accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledgers.
- Ability to apply and follow department and/or county accounting operations, procedures and methods.
- Ability to understand and apply accounting operations in accordance with laws, rules and guidelines.
- Ability to implement billing procedures and processes of the department.
- Ability to assist managers in compiling and preparing budget information and assist in tracking and monitoring approved budgets.
