Applications are invited for a tenure-track position in Computer Science at the Assistant Professor level with an anticipated contract start date of August 17th, 2026. We are seeking candidates with a strong commitment to high-quality undergraduate computer science teaching, in alignment with UW-Stout's polytechnic tenets of applied learning and research, business and industry partnerships, and career focused education. Our institution boasts nationally ranked, ABET-accredited programs that encompass a diverse range of specialized areas within Computer Science, including Software Engineering, Game Design and Development, Cybersecurity, Web Development, and Machine Learning/Data Science.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Teach all levels of undergraduate courses and possibly master's level courses in computer science. Participate in curriculum development, research, and scholarly activity. Participate in department and university service activities. Provide student academic advisement and conduct assessment of student learning. This includes contributing to academic program assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement processes, in collaboration with faculty and staff. Other duties as assigned by the department chair.

The Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science Department offers all the core courses necessary for the ABET-accredited Computer Science program (383 students), the Applied Mathematics and Computer Science program (91 students), the Cybersecurity program (180 students), the Computer Networking and Infrastructure Engineering program (70 students), as well as coursework supporting the ABET-accredited Computer and Electrical Engineering program (178 students). The department launched an M.

S. in Applied Computer Science program this Fall, which welcomes growth in both students and curriculum and will present future leadership opportunities. The B.S. Computer Science program has earned national acclaim for its exceptional concentration in Game Design and Development, achieving recognition that places UW-Stout at an impressive 5th ranking in the Midwest and 24th nationwide in Princeton Review's evaluations.

Additionally, we proudly hold the designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense, a distinction awarded by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

In our computer science classes, we prioritize a conducive learning environment with an average class size of 30 students. To bolster academic success, our department boasts tutoring services dedicated to supporting instruction in foundational courses. We believe in providing students with the tools they need for interactive, hands-on learning. As such, every student is equipped with a laptop and the necessary software, ensuring a rich and immersive educational experience.

We are an inclusive department of 31 full-time members with a commitment to diversity, a strong tradition of excellence in teaching, and a growing program of scholarship and research in computer science, mathematics, statistics, and related areas. The department is committed to student-centered and technology-enhanced instruction. Technology usage includes students working on laptops in the classroom, web enhancements (e.g., Canvas course management and online homework systems), and interactive distance education courses.

Our department members actively serve and participate in a wide range of prominent research conferences and communities, both regionally and on the international stage. These engagements extend to well-respected organizations such as IEEE, ACM, CCSC, MICS, and ACM/SIGCSE.

Compensation:

Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. A six-month probationary period is required.
