The Advising and Academic Services Coordinator works closely with the TRIO grant project participants to develop and implement individualized academic plans. This staff member monitors students’ academic progress through graduation, provides guidance on course requirements, provides academic skills support and provides information and advice regarding financial literacy. The Advising and Academic Services Coordinator assists the Director in recruiting and selecting participants who meet eligibility requirements and follows data collection requirements for the Annual Performance Report (APR).

This position works full-time for 9.5 months (off contract June, July and returns August 15th).

• Review students’ program application information, financial need, academic need, assist with interviewing project participants, and make recommendations for selection to the grant Director.
• Conduct individual participant meetings to assess the educational needs of project participants, identify services that promote academic development, prepare individualized academic plans and promote campus sense of belonging.
• Advise participants individually regarding majors, course selection, degree planning, career development, and university policies, as a supplemental advisor, with consideration of disability-related needs.
• Track and monitor the academic standing and degree progress of all project participants, coordinating the project’s midterm intervention and other academic support efforts to promote the academic achievement, retention, and graduation of project participants.
• Design individualized academic support programs for students in negative academic standing.
• Assist in teaching a General Arts and Sciences course “Foundations for Academic Success.”
• Design and support programming on course registration, financial literacy, financial aid, completion of FAFSA, applying for scholarships, and other topics.
• Supervise Mentoring Program with training, matching students, and approving payroll.
• Organize and implement educational opportunities and/or workshops for project participants that are relevant to grant and campus objectives that foster a sense of campus belonging.
• Assist the Director in compiling project reports, entering data on Student Access, sending Annual Performance Reports to US Department of Education.

Services for Students with Disabilities & TRIO SSS-D Grant

• Experience counseling, advising, or providing academic support services to students with a variety of academic majors.
• Experience working with students with disabilities in an academic setting.

• Master’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, vocational rehabilitation, or a related academic discipline from a regionally accredited institution.
• Familiarity with federal grants or TRIO programs.
