Position Summary

The Royal Learning Academy Paraprofessional supports the academic, social‑emotional, and behavioral development of scholars in grades 1–5. Under the direction of site administrators and teachers, paraprofessionals supervise scholars, work with small groups, assist with behavior management, support transitions, and provide wraparound care throughout the program day.

Paraprofessionals play a vital role in creating a learning environment where scholars feel safe, valued, and motivated to learn. Staff support teaching, learning, and enrichment experiences that honor diverse learning styles, promote an anti‑racist focus, and emphasize experiential, real‑world learning. This position is equally focused on academic engagement, social‑emotional learning, and the development of healthy relationships.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise scholars at the direction of site administrators to ensure a safe, supportive, and engaging environment.
  • Work with students in small groups and individually to support academic learning, enrichment activities, and skill development.
  • Assist teachers and site leaders with the implementation of lesson plans and instructional activities for summer enrichment and recreation classes for students in grades 1–5.
  • Translate lesson plans into developmentally appropriate, interactive, and hands‑on learning experiences.
  • Support behavior management using positive discipline strategies and trauma‑informed practices.
  • Assist with student transitions throughout the day, including arrival, dismissal, movement between activities, meals, and wraparound care.
  • Be available for the full 6-week duration of the Royal Learning Academy summer program.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team with teachers, leaders, assistants, and volunteers to support overall program functions.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and expectations established by Hopkins Public Schools and Hopkins Community Education.
  • Interact with parents, caregivers, and community members in a professional, courteous, friendly, and helpful manner.
  • Maintain a supportive and collaborative working relationship with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Supervise children to maintain an informal, orderly, and safe learning environment.
  • Complete daily attendance records, accident reports, and other documentation as requested.
  • Maintain proper care and use of program equipment and facilities.
  • Follow district safety procedures and guidelines and ensure appropriate safety precautions are taken during all activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Hours and Compensation

Approx. 32 days.
$21.33 per hour.
