Position Summary
Responsible for New Product Design and Development from concept through implementation into production with a firm understanding of aerospace quality requirements and design principles. Focus on new product design engineering and improvements in engineering best practices while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Develops and recommends solutions to well‑defined engineering requirements for a complex product or system, to ensure that design objectives are met.
Applies engineering principles based on assigned engineering domain (e.g. mechanical; electrical, chemical, etc).
- Lead an aerospace program from concept through the entire product lifecycle.
- Develop detailed product specifications by analyzing performance and customer requirements and investigate design factors such as function, materials, performance, interchangeability, cost, operational efficiency, and contractual requirements.
- Perform feasibility and trade studies using standard analytical methods; recommend solutions that are defined and reviewed for implementation.
- Interpret and validate test results for accuracy and precision, ensuring conformance to product qualification procedures and parameters to achieve customer and product reliability and safety standards. May utilize predictive models to simulate and verify design concepts.
- Provide technical information for review with product engineering teams and management using established engineering practices, standards, and documentation methods (e.g. structured design process, customer design reviews). Demonstrate good technical writing skills to ensure proper details and documentation for procedures, reports, specifications, etc., and achieve customer approval on required documentation.
- Contribute to project milestones, including creating functional diagrams and system layouts; reviewing detailed drawings and schematics; defining data structure, interfaces and programming logic; analyzing material requirements; researching customer data item requirements.
- Review product specifications for clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards and procedures. Identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommend revisions, engineering change orders, and improvements to engineering management or the project team.
- Maintain current professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and participating in professional associations.
- Share specialized knowledge and assist in mentoring new employees; may represent the company on specific projects or engineering tasks at internal and external events.
- Bachelor’s Degree or Professional Engineer (PE) certificate in an engineering or science technical discipline.
- 2‑3 years of related experience, or equivalent education and training, typically required to perform essential functions.
- Knowledge of engineering domain principles, product functionality, industry practices, regulations, and policies; general knowledge of other related engineering and technical areas.
- Proficiency with engineering design and analysis tools (e.g. CAD or modeling systems); ability to use standard software packages. May require capability using specialized software applications or languages.
- Ability to work with general objectives regarding projects and team goals; applies judgment in selecting procedures and techniques. Works collaboratively in a team environment.
- Effective communication of status, actions, recommendations, and other technical information with clarity and precision; responsive to inquiries from other engineering and business teams.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and frequently use hands to operate a computer. The employee must be able to talk or hear, occasionally stand and walk, and maintain close vision. Regular attendance, cooperative professional conduct with others and the public, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously are expected.
