Position OverviewThe Cost Accounting & Inventory Analyst plays a critical role in supporting accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and operational visibility within a manufacturing environment. This position partners closely with operations, supply chain, and finance to ensure strong cost controls, reliable inventory reporting, and actionable insights that support performance and profitability.
ResponsibilitiesCost Accounting
- Maintain and update standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead.
- Support cost roll-ups, cost updates, and periodic standard cost reviews.
- Analyze cost trends and identify drivers affecting product margins.
- Ensure cost structures align with actual production processes and financial policies.
Inventory Accounting & Control
- Perform inventory reconciliations, review discrepancies, and resolve root causes.
- Support cycle counts and annual physical inventory activities.
- Review and monitor inventory valuation under standard costing principles.
- Partner with operations to improve accuracy of BOMs, routings, and item master records.
Variance Analysis & Reporting
- Conduct detailed material, labor, and overhead variance analysis.
- Prepare recurring cost and inventory reports for management.
- Identify unusual trends and provide data-driven recommendations for improvement.
Operational & ERP Support
- Work cross-functionally with production, engineering, and supply chain to validate inventory movements and cost accuracy.
- Utilize ERP tools (Infor Syte Line preferred; SAP, Oracle, or similar acceptable) to maintain accurate costing and inventory data.
- Support system improvements and process enhancements related to costing and inventory workflows.
Month-End & Financial Support
- Prepare inventory-related journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Assist with financial close processes and contribute to ad hoc analysis supporting business decisions.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in cost accounting, inventory control, or manufacturing finance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Strong knowledge of standard costing, inventory valuation, variance analysis, and account reconciliations.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, modeling, analysis).
- ERP experience required — Infor Syte Line preferred; SAP, Oracle, or similar systems acceptable.
