A Brief OverviewThe Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support in an outpatient setting. This role includes but is not limited to rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, documenting in the electronic medical record, assisting with procedures, supporting providers, and promoting efficient patient flow while delivering patient-centered care.
This position will require front desk duties (registration, scheduling, and answering phones) as well as clinical duties (rooming, vitals, clinical task baskets and patient call‑backs). The position will also require working one evening per week (Thursdays) until 6:30 pm and rotating Saturdays from 8 am to 1 pm.
What You Will Do- Facilitate unit operations by managing patient flow.
- Assist with front‑desk duties specific to the department, including scheduling patients, collecting and verifying patient payor information, and other patient documentation.
- Perform basic patient‑centered care as delegated by the provider.
- Provide a safe environment for patients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
- For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
- Abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct, and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant Program (Required).
- High School Equivalent / GED (Required).
- Less than 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant (Preferred).
- Ability to communicate effectively with people from varied socioeconomic backgrounds. (Required proficiency)
- Ability to organize changing work assignments. (Required proficiency)
- Medical terminology knowledge. (Preferred proficiency)

- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) (Preferred).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) (Preferred within 90 days).
