Position: Thermal Spray Technician (2nd shift, Mon-Fri)

JOB SUMMARY

The Thermal Spray Technician (Level I) is a position in the field of thermal spray application. Thermal spray is a process used to apply a wide array of materials using manual spray techniques and computer programmed applications (CNC) to metal. The department specializes in depositing various materials onto turbine engine components for dimensional restoration using thermal spray equipment. This position will work alongside experienced thermal spray technicians to develop techniques, knowledge, and skills under the supervision of a professional team.

The work is performed in a climate-controlled, modern facility. Through an extensive in-house training program, successful applicants will receive computer-based and hands-on training to develop the necessary skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Through an extensive in-house training program (on-the-job training), the successful applicant will acquire the necessary skills through computer-based and hands-on training.

Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to comply with company safety policies and procedures.

Interpret and follow work instructions and shop drawings to apply the correct thermal spray process to designated part features.

Inspect and prepare parts for thermal spray coatings, including cleaning, masking, blasting, and other required processes.

Set up and operate thermal spray equipment in accordance with work instructions.

Select and apply specified coatings.

Handle coatings in line with safety, quality, stock control, and security policies.

Apply coating manually or via computer-controlled processes (CNC).

Remove masking after coating and prepare parts for subsequent processes.

Maintain equipment through daily checks and recordkeeping as required.

Frequently perform process tests for quality control.

Use handheld gauges to measure parts during coating to ensure the correct amount of coating is applied.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of six months to one year of experience in the thermal spray process.
Able to use measuring devices such as scales, micrometers, dial indicators, go/no-go gauges, etc.
Experience in reading shop drawings and work instructions and documenting work performed.
Previous experience operating overhead cranes.
General experience using files and other hand tools to remove sharp edges from metal surfaces.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
Familiar with or able to learn basic shop math.
Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
Read, write, speak, and understand English.
Must be able to use hand tools and have good hand-eye coordination.
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work in varying positions. Stand and/or sit for portions of the shift. Move parts (>50 pounds) using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods. Move lighter parts (
