Tool Room Technician / Manual Machinist
Pay: $22–$28/hour (Based on Experience)
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Are you a hands‑on machinist who takes pride in building precision tooling and solving complex manufacturing challenges? We are looking for a skilled Tool Room Technician / Manual Machinist to join our team in a dynamic job shop environment where no two days are the same.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced machinist who enjoys working with tight tolerances, custom tooling, and one‑off projects that directly support production, engineering, and R&D. What You'll Do- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD prints
- Build, repair, and modify fixtures, dies, jigs, gauges, and custom tooling
- Set up and operate manual machine tools, including:
- Bridgeport mills
- Engine lathes
- Surface grinders
- Drill presses
- Saws
- Perform precision machining to repair tools
- Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and height gauges
- Conduct layout work and calculate dimensions using shop math
- Troubleshoot tooling, machinery, and production issues
- Perform tool sharpening, fitting, and assembly
- Assist with preventive maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives
- Work independently to plan machining operations and determine the best methods for producing parts
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe tool room environment
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 5+ years of experience in a tool room, job shop, or manual machining environment
- Strong experience operating manual mills, lathes, and surface grinders
- Ability to read blueprints and understand geometric tolerancing and dimensions
- Proficiency with precision measurement tools
- Strong shop math skills, including fractions and decimals
- Experience machining a variety of materials
- Excellent mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
- Safety‑focused mindset
- Vocational or technical training in Machine Tool Technology or Tool & Die
- Experience in proto@type, custom, or low‑volume machining
- Welding or fabrication experience
- Familiarity with CAD drawings and design modifications
- Work on unique, challenging projects—not repetitive production work
