Job Description

The Material Handler is responsible for the movement of material throughout the site. This may include loading/unloading trailers and movement of raw materials, work in process, and finished goods.

Responsibilities
  • Move material to/from raw, WIP, finished, shipping, receiving, and manufacturing areas.
  • Unload/load trucks/tankers with incoming/outgoing materials and verify materials against receiving/shipping documents.
  • Complete appropriate transactions to document the movement of material within the Inventory Management System.
  • Support inventory accuracy through:
    • Completing warehouse and departmental cycle counts and correcting discrepancies.
    • Helping manage winding drum and rack inventories.
  • Raw/finishing warehouse duties:
    • Pick up and transfer material racks, pallets, and other consumable supplies to/from production areas as required.
    • Condense warehouse space and maintain good housekeeping.
  • Perform all assignments, duties, and tasks in a safe manner following standard procedures and practices. Encourage others to do so and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Continuously improve quality and productivity.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work area.
  • Assist in equipment maintenance activities as directed.
  • Communicate and coordinate necessary information to appropriate department/shift employees to ensure effective operations.
  • Lead in the recycling of pallets, cardboard, and scrap materials.
  • Support all 5S housekeeping activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) or 3+ years of relevant manufacturing work experience.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instruction.
  • Safety core value; serve as a role model and encourage adherence to safety practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong service and quality focus; address issues effectively, understand root cause, and communicate / educate the team in a timely manner.
  • Active contribution in a team‑based environment; encourage open communication and positive interaction with peers and management to reach common goals.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in essential tasks of the job and willingness to learn and share knowledge; take initiative to cross‑train and sustain acquired skills.
  • Record of flexibility and dependability to support production and customer focus.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including short‑notice requests.
  • Proficiency with computer applications, especially strong MFG Pro transactional skills.
Preferred Requirements
  • 3‑5+ years of material handling experience.
  • Solid interpersonal skills, mathematical aptitude, mechanical/technical aptitude, and logical problem‑solving skills.
  • Skilled in working independently in a safe and timely manner.
  • Motivated towards productivity, safety, and quality improvements.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement efforts and knowledge of ELS Operating Principles preferred.
  • Adaptive, flexible, able to handle ambiguity.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
