Tool Room Machinist

Location / Work Mode: On-site - Mentor, OH

Role Type: Full-time, First Shift (Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM)

Compensation: $28.00 - $34.00 / hour

The Opportunity & Impact

Step into a pivotal technical role with an industry-leading precision manufacturing organization serving high-demand aerospace and advanced industrial sectors. As a Tool Room Machinist, you will serve as the backbone of shop floor operations by executing custom tooling, die development, and precision fixture fabrication to support complex engineering requirements. Reporting directly to the Tool Room Supervisor, this role empowers an autonomous, high-energy machinist to directly influence product quality, optimize production throughput, and maintain uncompromising AS9100/ISO
9001 quality standards in a safety-focused first-shift environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate ProtoTRAK mills, ProtoTRAK lathes, surface grinders, and specialized shop machinery to produce high-precision tools, dies, and fixtures
  • Collaborate with Production and Engineering teams to prototype, fabricate, and deliver critical tooling requests on schedule
  • Convert rough sketches, verbal concepts, and detailed blueprints into fully functional, high-tolerance components without existing tooling documentation
  • Select appropriate raw materials and calculate precise speeds and feeds to optimize machining safety and tool longevity
  • Utilize optical comparators, precision measuring equipment, and shop gauges to inspect finished work against strict quality standards
  • Provide flexible machining support for CNC production operations during peak manufacturing demands
  • Mentor machine operators on safety standards, operational best practices, and proper equipment usage across the shop floor
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bring 10+ years of hands-on machining experience with deep expertise in tool room operations, fixture development, or tool and die making
  • Demonstrate high proficiency in setting up and operating ProtoTRAK lathes, mills, surface grinders, and general shop equipment
  • Display advanced blueprint reading capabilities with the proven ability to manufacture complex parts from informal sketches or verbal concepts
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of metallurgy, speeds, feeds, and material applications to meet strict client specifications
  • Hold a Tool & Die certification, Machinist trade credential, or equivalent technical education (preferred)
  • Exhibit high energy, strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and a continuous improvement mindset
  • Maintain physical capability to lift, bend, stand for extended periods, and adhere to shop safety glass and PPE mandates
