Job DescriptionSalary Range: 2025-26 (261 Days): $20.69 - $29.82 (11 Steps); 2026-27 (260 Days): $21.31 - $30.71 (11 Steps)
General Description of Duties:
- Complete daily tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
- Organize and complete the daily duties assigned to the Transportation Department including calling substitutes, organizing extra duty assignments, and handling the department communications.
- Act as a proper role model for staff and students at all times.
- Attend required professional development activities.
- Perform duties in a professional manner and in accordance with Mentor Exempted Village Board of Education policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned which reasonably relate to the general scope of the job description.
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Accept direction and suggestions from immediate supervisor.
- Follow written directions, write legibly, and complete reports using current computer hardware and software, if necessary.
- Call and secure substitute school bus operators and bus assistants.
- Maintain transportation records including physical examinations, driving abstracts, and any other records required by the State Department of Transportation.
- Post and assign field trips and extra duties.
- Create route efficiency using District routing system.
- Perform clerical functions including answering calls, word processing, data entry, and processing of purchase orders and leave forms.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills while working with students, parents, and staff in a positive public relations mode.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Qualities to Perform
Essential Functions:
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency in reading, math, oral and written communications.
- Must pass a physical examination.
- Remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout employment in the District.
- Maintain a good driving record (abstract), a valid Ohio Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with SP endorsement and no unreasonable points charged against the license and be insurable by the Board of Education's adopted carrier at all times.

Evaluation: The Transportation Dispatcher will have his/her performance evaluated at least annually by the immediate supervisor to whom assigned in accordance with the negotiated agreement between the Mentor Exempted Village Board of Education, the Mentor Classified Employee Association, and the Ohio Revised Code.
Terms of Employment: The number of days and number of hours per day to be determined in accordance with the negotiated agreement between the Mentor Exempted Village Board of Education and the Mentor Classified Employee Association.
