Abundance Day Center & Services is looking for a dependable, caring, and safety-focused Driver to provide transportation for adults with developmental disabilities to and from our Adult Day Program, community outings, appointments, and recreational activities.

  • Full-Time and Part-Time Available.

Position Summary

The Adult Day Center Driver is responsible for safely transporting individuals receiving services while providing exceptional customer service, ensuring participant safety, and maintaining compliance with all Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) regulations and company policies.

The Driver is responsible for ensuring every individual is transported safely, treated with dignity and respect, and arrives at their destination on time.

Essential

Job Responsibilities:
  • Safely transport individuals to and from the Adult Day Center.
  • Transport individuals to community outings, recreational activities, medical appointments, volunteer sites, and special events.
  • Follow assigned transportation routes and schedules.
  • Ensure every passenger is properly secured before operating the vehicle.
  • Assist individuals entering and exiting the vehicle safely.
  • Assist individuals using wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility devices.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections daily.
  • Keep vehicles clean, fueled, and in good operating condition.
  • Immediately report maintenance concerns or accidents to management.
  • Maintain accurate mileage, fuel, inspection, and transportation logs.
  • Ensure participant attendance is documented accurately.
  • Maintain professional communication with participants, families, guardians, and staff.
  • Assist participants with personal belongings as needed.
  • Provide assistance during emergency situations.
  • Follow all traffic laws and company transportation policies.
  • Assist with light duties at the center when transportation routes are completed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Safety Responsibilities

Drivers Must:

  • Conduct daily vehicle safety inspections.
  • Verify seat belts and wheelchair restraints are secured before driving.
  • Never leave individuals unattended in the vehicle.
  • Ensure all passengers enter and exit safely.
  • Practice defensive driving at all times.
  • Follow all emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Immediately report accidents, incidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification (or obtain upon hire).
  • Ensure emergency contact information is available during transportation.
DODD Rules & Compliance

Drivers are expected to follow all applicable Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) requirements, including:

  • Respect and protect each individual's rights, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Maintain HIPAA confidentiality.
  • Report Major Unusual Incidents (MUIs) and Unusual Incidents (UIs) immediately according to DODD policy.
  • Follow each individual's Individual Service Plan (ISP) and transportation requirements.
  • Complete all required DODD trainings.
  • Follow all transportation safety standards.
  • Use person-centered practices.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and ethical conduct.
  • Report suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation immediately.
  • Ensure individuals are transported only by authorized staff and released only to authorized individuals.
Qualifications:

Applicants Must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a valid Ohio Driver's License.
  • Have an excellent driving record.
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Pass a drug screening (if required).
  • Be insurable under the company's vehicle insurance policy.
  • Be able to safely assist individuals with mobility needs.
  • Have reliable transportation to work.
  • Demonstrate patience, professionalism, and compassion.
  • Have excellent communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience transporting individuals with developmental disabilities or seniors.
