Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) invites applications for the Director of Clinical Education (DCE) for the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. CUW faculty fulfill the university's mission to help students develop in mind, body, and spirit for service to Christ in the Church and the world through teaching, scholarship, and service. The DCE is a core faculty member responsible for the coordinating, planning, and implementing continuous improvement of the clinical education component of the DPT curriculum.
Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesClinical Education Management
- Network Development:
Develop and sustain a high-quality network of clinical education sites across diverse settings, including (but not limited to) orthopedic, neurologic, inpatient/acute care, pediatric, rural, and veteran-serving environments. - Relationship Management:
Serve as the primary liaison for clinical partners, including Site Coordinators of Clinical Education (SCCEs), Clinical Instructors (CIs), and community stakeholders. The successful candidate will develop relationships and cultivate durable clinical partnerships, support clinical instructors and/or site coordinators, as well as guide students through a clinical progression. - Student Placement & Support:
Coordinate clinical assignments and orient students to expectations, professional behavior standards, and assessment processes. Monitor student performance through regular communication before, during, and after clinical rotations. - Conflict Resolution:
Demonstrate excellence in resolving challenges between students and clinical partners.
Compliance & Accreditation
- Accreditation:
Contribute to CAPTE accreditation self-studies, annual reporting, and program assessment related to clinical education. - Policy Development:
Collaborate with the Program Chair and DPT faculty to develop fair clinical education policies, readiness standards, and grading systems. - Administrative Oversight:
Manage systems for tracking student compliance, including immunizations, background checks, drug screens, HIPAA/OSHA training, and site-specific requirements.
Teaching, Scholarship & Service
- Instruction:
Teach or co-teach physical therapy courses within the professional program and supervise students in community settings. - Scholarship:
Maintain an active scholarship agenda and participate in peer-reviewed research. - Service & Mentoring:
Participate in university service, curriculum development, and student mentoring to support recruitment and retention. - Other duties as assigned
- Strong Christian and professional demeanor, supportive of the mission of CUW and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
- Effective written and verbal communication with high-level organizational skills.
- Proficiency in database management and the ability to handle a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Preparedness to utilize EXXAT/Prism to enhance the clinical education experience.
- Willingness to collaborate across healthcare disciplines and diverse organizations.
- Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)
Required :
- Earned Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT).
- Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience as a physical therapist.
- Current licensure (or eligibility for licensure) to practice physical therapy in Wisconsin.
- Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement.
Preferred :
- Post-professional doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, ScD, etc.).
- Prior experience in higher education teaching, curriculum development, or administration.
- Two (2) years of experience as a Clinical Instructor (CI) or Site Coordinator (SCCE).
- APTA Clinical Instructor Certification.
- ABPTS board certification, residency, or fellowship training.
- Experience with CAPTE accreditation processes and student remediation
