Overview

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) is Wisconsin's largest and most diverse technical college, offering over 170 high‑quality programs that connect students to a career in as little as one to two years. Two part‑time vacancies are available to start the Fall semester. We seek passionate individuals who share our mission to serve students in greatest need.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Dean of STEM, develop and teach concepts and strategies for a variety of daytime or evening Civil Engineering courses. May require teaching at multiple MATC campuses, including online and virtual modalities. Additional duties include participation in department and advisory meetings, department and college functions, course and curriculum development in both traditional and non‑traditional formats, online courses, staff development, conducting open labs (if/when necessary), student advising, student outcome assessment and quality review assessment and implementation, student organization involvement, recruitment and retention of students, and other duties as assigned.

Required to remain current with industry trends and technologies in the marketplace.

  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching‑related activities.
  • Manage the classroom laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program/department evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance.
  • Advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with advisory committee in program/department area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program/department, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and promote educational opportunities at MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program/department evaluation and follow‑up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Educational Experience Required

Must have one (1) of the following:
1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree such as Structural Engineering, Surveying Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management, Environmental Engineering.

- 2. Associate’s Degree (AAS) in Civil Engineering Technology.

- 3. Land Surveyor License from the State of Wisconsin.

Occupational Experience Required

Must have two (2) years (4,000 hours) of work experience in the Civil Engineering or Technology field. In addition, one of the following must be met:
- At least one (1) year of work experience must have occurred within the last five (5) years.
- One (1) year of teaching Civil Engineering coursework at the post‑secondary level within the last five (5) years.

Surveying Engineering experience highly preferred.

Licensure

A Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor license from the State of Wisconsin is preferred.
