Position Overview

The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate, timely, and reliable inventory records across raw material, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods at Super Steel. This role is critical to ensuring material availability, supporting production flow, enabling accurate MRP planning, and protecting company assets. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, a disciplined process mindset, and hands-on experience in a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment.

Key Responsibilities Inventory Accuracy & Control
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods within the ERP system.
  • Execute cycle count programs and annual physical inventories; investigate and resolve variances promptly.
  • Identify root causes of inventory discrepancies and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure inventory transactions (receipts, issues, transfers, adjustments) are completed accurately and in real time.
Material Flow & Production Support
  • Monitor material movement from receiving through production to shipment, ensuring proper locations and traceability.
  • Work closely with Production, Purchasing, Engineering, and Quality to ensure material availability and proper consumption.
  • Support kitting, staging, and point-of-use inventory strategies to improve shop floor efficiency.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate BOMs, routings, and inventory parameters (min/max, safety stock).
ERP / MRP Support
  • Ensure inventory data integrity to support accurate MRP outputs and purchasing decisions.
  • Identify and elevate MRP-related issues tied to inventory accuracy or system setup.
  • Participate in ERP process improvements, system audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Receiving, Storage & Compliance
  • Verify incoming material quantities, documentation, and storage locations.
  • Ensure materials are stored safely and in accordance with internal standards and quality requirements.
  • Support traceability, lot control, and documentation requirements where applicable.
  • Generate and analyze inventory reports, including turns, adjustments, shortages, and excess/obsolete material.
  • Support inventory reduction, working capital improvement, and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Contribute to lean manufacturing and continuous improvement efforts across the facility.
Qualifications & Experience Required
  • 2–5 years of inventory control, materials, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in contract metal fabrication, machining, welding, or similar industrial operations preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (MIE Trak, Epicor, SAP, Oracle, or similar).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with large data sets accurately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic reporting tools.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
Preferred
  • Experience with cycle counting programs and physical inventories.
  • Understanding of MRP logic, BOMs, routings, and material planning concepts.
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.
  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain.
  • High level of accuracy and accountability
