Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and results‑driven Senior Buyer to join our contract fabrication team. This role is responsible for strategically sourcing and procuring raw materials, components, and services that directly support production, safety, quality, and financial objectives. The ideal candidate brings strong industry knowledge, supplier negotiation expertise, and the ability to operate independently while collaborating cross‑functionally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategically source and procure steel, fabricated components, and related materials required to support production schedules, ensuring optimal cost, quality, and on‑time delivery.
  • Monitor and analyze steel and commodity market trends; proactively adjust purchasing strategies to mitigate risk and maintain competitive pricing.
  • Lead supplier negotiations, including pricing, contracts, lead times, and service levels, to drive measurable cost savings and performance improvements.
  • Manage supplier relationships end‑to‑end, including evaluation, onboarding, performance reviews, corrective actions, and offboarding as required.
  • Ensure consistent on‑time delivery of materials; proactively resolve procurement, quality, invoicing, and inventory‑related issues.
  • Partner closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, Safety, and Inventory teams to align sourcing strategies with operational and project requirements.
  • Provide proactive sourcing support for new parts and programs by participating in project meetings and reviewing technical requirements.
  • Oversee PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) vending machines to ensure proper stocking levels, compliance, and alignment with safety standards.
  • Conduct on‑site supplier audits and evaluations to support supplier selection, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with inventory and materials teams to manage stock levels, conduct audits, and minimize shortages or excess inventory.
  • Develop and present reports on purchasing performance, supplier metrics, cost savings, and market conditions to management.
  • Apply sound judgment and objective decision‑making to positively impact individual performance, department outcomes, and overall business results.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of supply chain and operational objectives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred or 3+ years in a purchasing role within contract metal fabrication, heavy manufacturing, or industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated experience purchasing steel, fabricated components, or industrial materials.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a proven track record of cost savings and supplier performance improvement.
  • Working knowledge of steel products, commodity pricing, and supply market dynamics.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
