Merced College invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track Professor of Biology position at the Los Banos Campus. At the Los Banos Campus, many students pursue Biology as part of their pathway into Nursing and other allied health careers. We are seeking an educator who can confidently teach all levels of biology—from foundational coursework to advanced, transfer‑level and pre‑nursing sciences—while helping build and sustain a growing program that meets regional workforce needs.
We are seeking a dynamic, engaging educator who takes true ownership of their pedagogy to inspire students through hands‑on learning, critical analysis, and real‑world application. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to student success across multiple modalities, including in‑person, online, and hybrid instruction, and bring both breadth and depth of expertise to support students preparing for healthcare careers and transfer pathways alike.
EssentialFunctions
- Provide innovative and effective instruction in accordance with current pedagogy and established course outlines and expectations.
- Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance policies and maintain regular and substantive contact with students.
- Maintain and submit required student attendance and scholastic records on the Learning Management System (e.g., grades and syllabi).
- Utilize the Learning Management System to deliver, prepare, and grade class assignments and examinations.
- Maintain and utilize effective skills in instructional design, applications, and methods.
- Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy.
- Participate in the development and review of curriculum.
- Participate in the development of teaching‑learning methods and materials.
- Participate in departmental, area, and campus professional activities/committees.
- Represent the college within the Merced community and within professional circles.
- Participate in the college's learning outcomes assessment program, including course, program, and institutional assessments to continually improve student learning outcomes.
- Master's Degree in any biological science.
- OR
- Bachelor's degree in any biological science AND Master's Degree in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science.
- OR equivalent.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Teaching experience at the college level.
- Teaching experience and/or coursework in Anatomy and Physiology.
- Related experience will be considered.
- Ability and willingness to teach all levels of biology offered at Merced College.
- Current technology skills related to teaching the discipline; a willingness to pursue future technological developments; and a commitment to integrating technology into the curriculum.
- Ability to relate the practical and the theoretical aspects of the subject matter to the student.
