Position Overview

Title:

Teaching Assistant

Salary: $70,720 annual full‑time (based on 70% time)

Percent time: 25% – 50%, up to 100% during Summer Term only

Anticipated start:
Summer 2026 - June 1, 2026;
Fall 2026 – August 1, 2026;
Spring 2027 – January 1, 2027

Position duration:
Up to one semester or a summer term

The School of Natural Sciences anticipates hiring teaching assistants for Academic Year , including Summer Session 2026.

The TA will conduct assigned laboratory and/or discussion sections, attend lectures, labs, and TA meetings; proctor exams; grade homework; schedule at least two fixed office hours per week; and perform other instructional duties in support of the supervising instructor.

Teaching Assistants are represented by the UAW-AFL-CIO.

Basic qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in the subject area or a related field.
• Must be a registered UC Merced graduate student in full‑time residence.
• Good academic standing (≥ 3.0 GPA for relevant courses).
• Enrollment of at least 12 units during the first semester (incoming) or current semester (continuing).
• For continuing students: completion of at least 8 upper‑division or graduate credit units each of the two most recent semesters.
• No more than two incomplete grades still on record.

• Copy of Undergraduate Transcripts (unofficial).
• Authorization to Release Information Form.
