Overview
Position title: Unit 18 Faculty
Salary range: A reasonable estimate for an initial appointment is $70,977. See Unit 18 Lecturer table for the salary range for this position. These are academic year appointments and subject to the normal processes of academic review. Salary is prorated in accordance with instructional workload calculation.
Anticipated start: Academic Year: 7/1/2026 - 6/30/2027;
Fall Semester: 8/1/2026 - 12/31/2026;
Spring Semester: 1/1/2027 - 5/31/2027

Position descriptionThe School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts seeks a lecturer to teach courses in Philosophy in the Academic Year 2026-27. Courses being offered may include but are not limited to the following:
- Introduction to Ethics
- Bioethics
- Love, Sex and Gender
- Business Ethics
In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor is responsible for creating a syllabus, holding weekly office hours (2 hours/week), and grading examinations and/or papers. The instructor may also be required to hold discussion and lab sections or supervise a graduate student teaching assistant.
This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and appropriate collective bargaining agreement. See the current Lecturers Unit (IX) bargaining agreement for additional information.

Three courses in Fall and three courses in Spring are equivalent to a full-time position. Currently, appointments are expected to be part-time; however, full-time or part-time positions may be available based on instructional needs and availability.

Basic qualifications
Advanced degree and experience teaching at the college or university level are required. Must be able to provide a record of excellence in teaching.
