Position Overview
Canvassers will support a client-facing grassroots campaign focused on improving quality of life through civic engagement, strategic advocacy, and leadership development. This role centers on door-to-door outreach, engaging residents in meaningful conversations that drive civic participation and community impact.
The ideal canvassers are passionate about social change, comfortable with face-to-face community engagement, and motivated by people-powered work. Candidates should be reliable, personable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while representing the campaign and Street Level Strategy with professionalism.
What You Will Achieve
Field Canvassing, Voter Engagement & Transportation
- Drive Community Outreach:
Conduct door-to-door canvassing to inform residents about local initiatives and key issues. - Increase Civic Participation:
Encourage community involvement through direct, one-on-one conversations. - Educate & Empower Residents:
Clearly explain relevant issues and how individuals can take action. - Ensure Data Accuracy:
Accurately log all canvassing activity in CRM systems (PDI) with strong attention to detail. - Maintain Trust & Confidentiality:
Handle all resident information professionally and ethically. - Build Meaningful Connections:
Address concerns, dispel misinformation, and turn conversations into impactful action. - Transport Canvassers:
When assigned as a driver, safely transport fellow canvassers to and from assigned canvassing locations. - Support Field Operations:
Coordinate transportation with the Field Director and follow assigned pickup, drop-off, and canvassing instructions.
Community Engagement & Relationship Building
- Represent the Campaign Professionally:
Serve as a positive and informed representative in the field. - Strengthen Community Relationships:
Build rapport with residents by actively listening and responding to concerns. - Inspire Local Leadership:
Motivate community members to take an active role in their communities.
Who You Are
- Fluent in English and Spanish and comfortable communicating with diverse communities
- 1–2 years of experience in canvassing, advocacy, or community outreach preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect authentically with people
- Detail-oriented with strong data‑entry accuracy
- Comfortable using digital tools for tracking and communication
- Self‑directed, reliable, and able to manage time effectively
- Physically able to walk door‑to‑door for up to 4 hours with limited breaks
- Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle
- Current and valid auto insurance
- Able to safely transport fellow canvassers to and from assigned canvassing locations
- Able to meet all vehicle requirements below
Vehicle Requirements
- 4‑door vehicle with individual seat belts for at least 4 people
- Reliable vehicle with no significant cosmetic damage, missing panels, or commercial/taxi branding
- Working heater, air conditioning, and windows
- Current and valid auto insurance
- Vehicle must be safe and suitable for transporting team members
Preferred
- Familiarity with or strong ties to the Fresno community
- Experience using Google Docs, Google Sheets, PDI Mobile Connect, or similar tools
- Previous experience driving or transporting coworkers or field teams
Schedule & Duration

Schedule:
- Monday–Thursday: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Saturday & Sunday: 9:30 AM – 6:30 PM
Expectations:
- Team members must work a minimum of 28 hours per week
- Availability for weekend shifts is required
- Must be able to maintain predictable and reliable attendance
- Must be able to work 5 days in‑person during scheduled shift hours
- Must be able to perform canvassing duties while also fulfilling assigned driver responsibilities
- Must safely transport canvassers when assigned as a driver
- Must remain responsive to the Field Director or designated team lead regarding transportation needs
- Flexibility to work outside standard business hours, including evenings and weekends
Compensation & Benefits
- $27/hour (part‑time)
- Mileage reimbursement for travel between canvassing sites
