Responsibilities

The Reader will be responsible for grading homework, quizzes, and exams as needed under the supervision of the instructor. The position will require up to a maximum of 18 hours per week.

Basic qualifications

Reader will have successfully completed the course or related course they are appointed to as a Reader with a grade of "B" or higher and be in good standing at the University with at least a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). Readers are usually graduate students; however, qualified undergraduate students may be employed, especially when graduate students are not available. Professional readers, not enrolled as students, may be employed to meet special needs, but only on an hourly basis.

The University of California Readers are represented by the UAW-AFL-CIO. Candidates must possess valid authorization to work in the United States. UC Merced is not currently able to sponsor individuals residing outside the United States who would require a new H-1B visa for employment. Applicants who do not hold valid U.S. work authorization are presently ineligible for this position.
