How you make a differenceThe Licensed Vocational Nurse assists in delivering patient care in a correctional setting through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The role carries out medical and treatment plans by administering medications, performing ordered diagnostic procedures, responding to health emergencies, and assisting with medical or minor surgical procedures. The position documents nursing care and medication activities and communicates patient information with healthcare practitioners and staff to support continuity of care.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in assessment and data collection of patients’ physical, psychological, and social dimensions in the correctional health setting.
- Plan and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with healthcare practitioners and nursing staff.
- Administer medications, including daily MAT medications, and complete required medication counts and documentation.
- Obtain diagnostic tests, perform labs, drug screens, EKGs, and assist with medical or minor surgical procedures as ordered.
- Document nursing encounters, communicate patient information, and respond to health emergencies in accordance with policies and procedures.
Education
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
Experience
- One (1) or more years of clinic experience preferred
Licenses/Certifications
- Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in the state employed.
- Current CPR certification
