Description:

Unit has 33 total patient care rooms with 25 rooms equipped with cardiac monitors. A triage area with 2 triage bays is available, staffed by mid-level providers and nurses. Unit self-schedules; however, scheduling requests cannot be accommodated. Travel teams are permitted, but scheduling cannot be guaranteed. Candidates must be ready to accept offers promptly, as there have been recent high volumes of declined offers.

Common diagnoses include routine and typical emergency room patients. The hospital is stroke certified and serves as the base hospital for EMS. The unit will send out cases of STEMI, hemorrhagic strokes, and pediatrics as needed. ER nurses will take ER holds when required. Strong and thorough documentation skills are essential. The facility adheres to EMTALA guidelines. Shift ratios are 1 nurse to 4 patients.

Average patient volume is approximately 210 patients. Charge nurse is available 24/7. Certified nurse aides or techs assist with various technical duties. Staffing includes Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7. No floating outside of the emergency room is allowed. Weekend requirement is 2 weekends per 4-week period. Holiday coverage is required for 2 out of 3 holidays. Scrub color is navy blue only, including any undershirts or jackets.

Orientation will consist of up to 6 shifts with a preceptor. Central monitoring is available at both nurse stations. No IV team is present; responsibilities are fulfilled by the nursing staff. Candidates must possess the ability to stabilize and treat any individual presenting to the emergency department, regardless of insurance or ability to pay.
