Job Title: Groundskeeper

Job Summary

Work on diverse tasks ranging from mowing lawns and trimming trees to installing sprinkler systems and ensuring groundskeeping equipment runs smoothly. The role requires hands‑on experience and the ability to work in various weather conditions, while maintaining campus safety and aesthetics.

Responsibilities
  • Mow lawns and fields
  • Trim shrubs, hedges, and trees
  • Apply insecticides, pesticides, and fertilizer by mechanical means
  • Spray flowers and shrubs as needed
  • Spade and prepare grounds around flowers, shrubs and trees
  • Assist in sprinkler installation and repair
  • Perform preventive maintenance on groundskeeping equipment
  • Assist in the installation of asphalt, concrete, fencing, landscaping, and grounds equipment
  • Drive a truck or tractor
  • General grounds cleanup
  • May supervise Student Assistants
  • Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of applicable experience
  • Knowledge of methods for caring for plants, shrubs, flowers, trees, and lawns
  • Basic safe work practices
  • Valid California driver’s license
  • Possession or eligibility for a California State Department of Food and Agriculture Certified Commercial Applicator license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of experience in commercial landscape maintenance
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student backgrounds
Physical Demands
  • Lift up to 60 pounds
  • Work under extreme heat or cold temperatures
  • Operate light motorized equipment
  • Perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking on uneven terrain
  • Work at heights and in the elements as required
