About the Role
The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in planning, directing, and managing the bakery department’s daily operations and team members. This role helps lead merchandising, customer service, and compliance, while ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety. As a key leader, you’ll inspire your team, delight customers with exceptional service, and create an engaging, productive workplace.
What You’ll Do- Customer Service:
Greet customers and team members with a smile, providing extraordinary service and assistance with bakery and cake orders. - Team Leadership:
Assist in scheduling, training, delegating, and evaluating bakery personnel. Ensure compliance with policies, safety standards, and customer care expectations. - Operations:
Support bakery sales projections, manage inventory, review invoices, and ensure accurate pricing, codes, and labeling. - Product Quality:
Prepare, bake, and decorate breads, pastries, and cakes with consistency in taste, weight, and appearance. - Merchandising:
Merchandise products, keep cases full, rotate stock, and maintain clean, appealing displays. - Compliance & Safety:
Promote food safety, sanitation, and the Bakery Safety Program. Correct unsafe acts and enforce health code regulations. - Leadership Coverage:
Assume Bakery Manager responsibilities when needed, ensuring smooth department operations. - Sanitation:
Keep bakery equipment, floors, and work spaces clean, organized, and compliant with Vallarta and health department standards.
- Stand and walk for long periods (6–8 hours/day).
- Frequently bend neck/waist, squat, twist, and reach above/below shoulders.
- Frequent grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine hand manipulation.
- Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally (e.g., flour, sugar, boxes).
- Work near bakery equipment and in environments with varying temperatures and humidity.
- May be required to perform tasks at elevated levels (placing or retrieving items).
- 3+ years of baking experience or 1+ year in bakery management.
- Knowledge of bakery products, ingredients, and equipment (Mexican, Central American, and American baked goods, etc.).
- Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and mentor team members.
- Basic computer and math skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Fast-paced retail setting with direct customer interaction.
- Exposure to perishable products, bakery equipment, and changing temperatures.
- Must work flexible schedule: afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
