In-Field:
Merced, CA. Work will be primarily performed at a designated field worksite location based out of a central Race Communications worksite. Frequent travel to and work from other Race offices or other off-site locations will be required.
$24 to $28 USD per hour.

Position ImpactThe Underground (UG) Laborer plays a vital role in the construction, maintenance, and operation of underground telecommunications infrastructure as directed by the Foreman and/or Supervisor.
Responsibilities and Duties- Executes all stages of underground construction, involving loading, driving, delivering, excavating, removing, and placing diverse construction materials and equipment.
- Conducts manual digging using shovels and mechanical tools for excavation purposes.
- Installs and upholds underground telecommunications cabling, ensuring proper placement and secure installations.
- Operates in both congested urban areas and remote locations, adapting to diverse work environments.
- Executes general construction tasks under the supervision of the Foreman/Supervisor.
- Manages property flagging and worksite restoration procedures to ensure organized project completion.
- Maintains constant visual and auditory communication with team members and the surrounding environment, ensuring the safe coordination of movement.
- Safely operates various drill equipment on the jobsite, including but not limited to directional drill, backhoe/excavator, skid steer, tractor trailer (moving equipment/hauling water), and vacuum truck/trailer.
- Manages deployment and removal of traffic control devices to ensure safety in work areas on streets or roadways.
- Adheres to and operates within the weight capacity limits specified by manufacturers for equipment and machinery (e.g., ladders: 300-pound max load capacity).
- Maintains vehicle/equipment pre-op/post-op to be prepared to perform required duties.
- Maintains a clean driving record as defined by the current fleet insurance underwriter.
- Spends a significant portion of the workday traveling in a vehicle visiting various locations.
- May be required to work overtime, after hours, on weekends, for emergencies, or be on-call as needed to ensure work is completed.
- Observes hazards and reports any concerns or accidents to a supervisor or safety professional; participates in the investigation process as needed.
- Understands, completes, and signs off all pre-job safety planning tools at the start and end of the shift; completes all required safety-related paperwork.
- Understands and responds appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (e.g., back-up alarms, smell of smoke, fumes, odors, different colored warning tags, warning sirens).
- Upholds a secure work environment by adhering to regulations, procedures, and company policies, ensuring safety standards are consistently maintained.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Eligibility for US employment without sponsorship.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency in operating a variety of utility trucks and equipment safely and effectively.
- Basic knowledge of and ability to handle tools and equipment safely.
- Consistent and punctual attendance.
- Minimum 6 months of experience in the telecommunication sector.
- Ability to read blueprints and interpret utility maps to identify the type and size of underground utilities.
- Ability to communicate in English (speaking, reading, writing, comprehension).
- Proficiency in Spanish language is a plus.
- Proficient use of MS Office applications including Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; teleconferencing applications.
- Functional use of common office equipment, computers, and office software.
- Ability to distinguish colors and audible tones.
