Agricultural Education Program Leader

Company Description The Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting agricultural education for youth and community members. Based at its facilities at 1000 N Texas Ave. in Mercedes, Texas, the organization provides hands‑on learning opportunities related to agriculture and livestock. Role Description The Agricultural Education Program Leader is a full‑time, on‑site role located in Mercedes, TX. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading agricultural education programs and activities for youth and other community participants, including workshops, demonstrations, and agriculture‑related learning experiences. The role involves developing curriculum and educational materials, coordinating program schedules and resources, and collaborating with schools, community groups, and volunteers to expand outreach.

The Program Leader will oversee program logistics during events at the Livestock Show facilities, ensure safety and compliance with organizational guidelines, and maintain clear communication with participants and partners. This role also includes tracking program outcomes, preparing reports, and recommending improvements to support the organization’s educational mission.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of agriculture, livestock, and related educational practices, with the ability to translate technical concepts into accessible learning experiences.
• Experience in program development and delivery, including planning lessons, organizing events or workshops, and managing schedules and resources.
• Demonstrated skills in communication, public speaking, and community engagement, with the ability to work effectively with youth, families, educators, and volunteers.
• Ability to manage on‑site activities safely and efficiently, including basic risk management, adherence to organizational policies, and coordination during events.
• Effective organizational and administrative skills, including record‑keeping, reporting, and use of common office software and digital tools.
• Prior experience in education, youth development, extension services, or nonprofit program work is beneficial.
• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Education, Education, Animal Science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Willingness to work on‑site at 1000 N Texas Ave. in Mercedes, TX, including occasional evenings or weekends during major events.
