Description

What if your job wasn't just answering phones or checking people in?

What if every day you had the opportunity to make someone feel welcome, solve a problem before it became one, help a family discover their new community, or simply brighten someone's day with a genuine smile?

At the Stroum Jewish Community Center, our Guest Experience Specialists do exactly that.

This isn't a typical front desk position. You're the face of our organization—the first person members, guests, volunteers, vendors, and visitors meet when they walk through our doors. You're a host, concierge, problem solver, information expert, and one of the people who helps make the SJCC one of the most welcoming places in our community.

If you enjoy connecting with people, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and take pride in creating exceptional experiences, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do

No two days are exactly alike, but you can expect to:

  • Welcome every member and guest with genuine warmth and hospitality.
  • Learn members' names and build lasting relationships.
  • Help families, visitors, and prospective members feel comfortable navigating the SJCC.
  • Give engaging tours to potential members.
  • Answer questions about memberships, programs, events, and facility offerings.
  • Process memberships, registrations, payments, and retail purchases.
  • Answer phones and assist visitors professionally and efficiently.
  • Resolve concerns with empathy, sound judgment, and professionalism.
  • Keep a watchful eye on activity throughout the lobby and entrance to help maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Monitor access control systems and follow established security procedures.
  • Respond calmly during unexpected situations and know when additional support is needed.
  • Help maintain an organized, clean, and inviting Welcome Desk.
  • Support café operations and other guest services as needed.
We're Looking For Someone Who...
  • Loves working with people.
  • Naturally makes others feel welcome.
  • Can stay calm and positive when things get busy.
  • Notices the little details before others do.
  • Enjoys solving problems and helping others.
  • Is dependable, organized, and comfortable using technology.
  • Can juggle multiple priorities without losing their smile.
  • Understands that hospitality and safety go hand in hand.

Customer service experience is required. Experience in hospitality, hotels, customer-facing retail, recreation, community centers, or similar environments is especially valuable.

Why You'll Love Working Here

The SJCC is more than a fitness center or community center—it's a place where people of all ages come to learn, connect, celebrate, and build community.

Every day you'll interact with children heading to preschool, families attending events, members working out, older adults participating in programs, volunteers giving back, and guests visiting for the first time. You'll be part of creating an environment where everyone feels they belong.

Position pays $17.50 to $20.00 per hour based on experience

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role isn't measured by how many phone calls you answer.

It's measured by the member who walks in and is greeted by name.

The family who leaves thinking, "Everyone here was so welcoming."

The visitor whose problem you solved before it became frustrating.

The calm professionalism you bring during busy moments.

And the confidence that everyone who enters our building feels safe, welcomed, and cared for.

Physical Requirements

This is an active, customer-facing role. You'll spend much of your shift standing, greeting guests, providing tours, assisting members, moving throughout the facility, and responding to operational needs. The position also involves occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds and the use of computers and point-of-sale systems. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.

The Stroum Jewish Community Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone is welcomed, respected, and valued. Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to any protected status under applicable law.
