The Position

The Psychological Services Specialist, DOC position with the Department of Corrections (DOC) offers a meaningful way to support the well-being of inmates at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) s role allows you to build strong communication and counseling skills while making a positive difference each day.

Description Of Work

This position focuses on supporting the mental health and emotional adjustment needs of inmates through counseling, testing, and coordination of services. As a Psychological Services Specialist, DOC, you will perform the following duties:

  • Counseling Services: Provide individual and group counseling that addresses behavior, adjustment, and emotional needs
  • Testing And Evaluation: Conduct interviews and administer tests to understand inmate abilities and treatment needs
  • Service Coordination: Work with other departments and agencies to support consistent delivery of psychological services
  • Report Preparation: Prepare written reports that summarize test findings, behavior patterns, and treatment recommendations
  • Crisis Response: Respond to urgent mental health needs and support inmates in assessment housing areas
  • Program Participation: Serve on institutional committees and support team activities related to inmate progress

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week
  • Work hours are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A master's degree in psychology or a closely related field that includes fifteen graduate level credits in psychology or counseling.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
