This is a time-limited position. It is full-time (40 hours per week) with State Benefits for a limited time, not to exceed 3 years (36 months). If you have questions concerning the time-limited status of this position, you may inquire at the interview. Selected candidate may be considered for other permanent positions, once the time-limited position is completed.
The North Carolina Department of Revenue is currently seeking a Revenue Tax Auditor I to work in the Motor Fuels Section of the Examination Division. The Motor Fuels Section administers and enforces motor fuels tax laws, motor carrier laws, as well as some motor vehicle laws. The Motor Fuels Section of the Examination Division administers and enforces both motor fuels tax laws and motor carrier tax laws.
They also conduct audits for International Fuel Tax Association (IFTA). This position is assigned specifically as the Joint Operation Center (JOC) auditor.
The JOC auditor will conduct independent examinations of financial records of taxpayers that are not in voluntary compliance and have unique or special audit features or anticipated accounting, tax law, or investigative problems of a more unique nature, or of unusual difficulty or complexity.
Due to the nature of work, a valid driver’s license is required, and some overnight travel will be required.

Knowledge of a variety of accounting systems
Proficiency with Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word
Basic knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and Income Tax
Recruitment Range: $50,088 - $87,654
