Overview
AVP for Finance & Controller is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial health, sustainability, and compliance of the organization. This individual will lead all financial operations, provide strategic financial guidance to executive leadership and the Board, and ensure strong internal controls and reporting practices aligned with nonprofit best practices.
Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy- Serve as a strategic financial partner to the Executive Director and Board of Directors
- Develop and manage annual budgets in collaboration with department leaders
- Provide financial forecasting, scenario planning, and long-term sustainability analysis
- Present clear and accurate financial reports to leadership and the Board
- Oversee general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and cash flow management
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes
- Maintain compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
- Manage annual audit and act as primary liaison with external auditors
- Oversee financial reporting for grants, contracts, and restricted funds
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and funder financial requirements
- Support grant budgeting and reporting in partnership with program staff
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies
- Improve financial systems, processes, and reporting tools as needed
- Supervise finance staff and external vendors as applicable
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
- 10+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, budgeting, and compliance
- Experience presenting financial information to senior leadership and Boards
- CPA, MBA, or equivalent advanced degree
- Experience working with grants and government funding
- Familiarity with financial software (Oracle a big plus!)

- Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities
- High attention to detail with the ability to see the big picture
