This position, within our Certification Division, plays a pivotal role in the review, analysis, and processing of police officer recertification and decertification requests, as well as the review of certified police instructor applications. Additionally, this position may conduct review and analysis of lateral and comparative certification requests which are typically time‑consuming.
This position may be assigned duties related to the review, analysis, and processing of police officer and/or instructor decertification requests. This multi‑faceted process is captured in statutory and regulatory provisions, and is labor‑intensive, time‑consuming, and must adhere closely to strict timelines. The process includes compliance conferences; issuance of a complaint; pre‑hearing conferences; and conduction of adjudicative hearings in accordance with Chapter 54 of the General Statutes (Uniform Administrative Procedure Act (UAPA).
This is a full time position, Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. A hybrid schedule is available based on agency availability and scheduling.
About UsThe POST Division of DESPP carries out the objectives and mission of the Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POST Council or Council) within DESPP. The Certification Division of (POST) manages the initial certification and recertification of police officers and instructors, as well as the revocation (decertification) process of those certifications. This division is also responsible for processing and reviewing instructor applications to verify that all applicants meet the necessary qualifications to teach the POSTC‑approved curriculum.
DESPP is committed to protecting and improving the quality of life for all by providing a broad range of public safety services, training, regulatory guidance, and scientific services utilizing enforcement, prevention, education and state of the art science and technology. In the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection this class is accountable for managing the implementation of training or accreditation programs and providing assistance to law enforcement units in establishing and maintaining training or accreditation programs and facilities which conform to professional standards.
