Job Description
The Behavioral Health Clinician – Licensed SBHC is a licensed Behavioral Health provider who supports students and families as a CHC employee in a school‑based clinic. Responsibilities include performing diagnostic psychosocial evaluations, developing care plans, offering individual, family, or group therapy, and collaborating with psychiatric and/or medical providers who are part of the client’s care team. The clinician documents all clinical interventions in accordance with CHC policy, Joint Commission standards, and state regulatory expectations.
This role is primarily focused on direct client care but may include supervision of unlicensed staff and/or students.
This is a full‑time, salaried position following a school‑based calendar that mirrors the 195‑day school year.
Role and Responsibilities CLINICAL- Completes initial behavioral health evaluations; individual, group, and family psychotherapy with children and/or adults in an outpatient clinic.
- Runs at least five groups per week of direct clinical work.
- Practices as part of an interdisciplinary, inter‑professional team, accepting "warm hand‑offs" and reaching out to patients flagged by the BH clinical dashboard.
- Consults with providers within and outside the agency regarding treatment plans and patient progress.
- Coordinates with psychiatric consultants for diagnostic and consultative needs; refers as necessary for medication management.
- Attends clinical team meetings and component meetings as assigned.
- Meets productivity standards outlined annually during performance appraisal review with a focus on quality care.
- Encourages clients to express feelings, develop insight, and discuss life events.
- Performs crisis interventions, assess immediate safety concerns, including high‑risk patients for homicide, suicide, and domestic violence.
- Guides clients in developing skills or strategies for identified goals.
- Develops and implements treatment plans per state regulatory and Joint Commission standards.
- Evaluates ongoing treatment effectiveness and adjusts as needed.
- Discusses life plans post‑therapy with individual patients.
- Supports family members in understanding, dealing with, or supporting clients.
- Maintains awareness of new developments in the field.
- Gathers information about community mental health needs or resources for integration into therapy.
- Licensed clinicians may supervise student interns or staff pursuing licensure; unlicensed clinicians work toward licensure.
- Completes all documentation required by state regulations, Joint Commission standards, and CHC Behavioral Health policy in a timely manner (intake, prior authorization, progress notes, treatment plans, discharge).
- Locks all treatment notes no later than the end of the next business day.
- Prepares reports for outside agencies such as DCF, Family Relations, probation, and others with appropriate releases signed by clients.
- Participates as a member of agency‑wide committees as assigned.
- Licensure / Certification / Registration: LCSW, LMFT, LPC, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist in CT; preferred. Alternatively, license‑eligible with required current associate license (MLSW, PC‑A, MFT‑A) and ability to obtain full clinical licensure within 3 years of hire.
- Minimum of two years of outpatient experience with children and/or adults.
- Theoretical orientation consistent with brief, problem‑focused therapy.
- Reliable automobile or transportation to outside agency consults, meetings, and home visits.
- Bilingual fluency in a language spoken by the patient population (e.g., English/Spanish) preferred.
- Combination of sustained sitting, walking, and stair climbing.
- Minimal lifting and carrying activities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Position must interface with patients, family members, community agencies, and other providers within the organization.
- Behavioral Health information is kept in strict confidence; confidentiality of patient and business information is a requirement.
- Responsibility for client data entry and access to medical system information.
- Confidential patient correspondence maintained according to CHC policies.
