Wilcox Technical High School! The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is currently recruiting for one (1) full-time Custodian position at H.C. Wilcox Technical High School in Meriden, CT.

In your role as a Custodian, you will have the opportunity to:
- Perform custodial tasks and maintenance of areas such as classrooms, offices, auditoriums, wards, kitchens, dining rooms, lavatories, and outdoor areas.
- Dust, mop, sweep, scrub, strip, wax, polish floors, shampoo carpets and use appropriate equipment such as floor polishers and buffers.
- Wash, dust, and polish glass including windows, woodwork, walls, furniture, and metal equipment.
- Collect and dispose of all trash and recycling in the appropriate containers.
- Report needs for repairs, perform minor maintenance, inspect building for damage and report conditions to supervisor.
- Perform related duties as required.
Through exemplary trade and academic programming, CTECS prepares trade-bound students to meet the skilled workforce needs in Connecticut.
Examples of Duties- Dust, mop, sweep, scrub, strip, wax and polish floors using appropriate equipment such as floor polishers and buffers.
- Wash, dust, and polish glass including windows, woodwork, walls, furniture, and metal equipment.
- Collect and dispose of trash; change light bulbs and replace fuses; lubricate or tighten door hinges, drawers, cabinets; replace ceiling or floor tiles.
- Move furniture and set up classrooms; perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Operate, care for and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work.
- Keep records.
- Any experience and training which would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
- Experience performing custodial work in a school.
- Experience waxing and polishing floors using floor polishers and buffers.
- Experience removing snow and ice from stairways and walkways around large buildings.
- Experience performing minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work.
- Experience with deep cleaning and disinfecting large facilities.
Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits, and/or certifications.
Physical and Working Conditions- Must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, and visual and auditory acuity.
- May lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to risk of injury from equipment.
- A physical examination may be required.
