Independent Sales Representative (1099) - Wholesale Perennials

Experience:
5+ years of proven sales or account management experience within the horticulture, nursery, or green industry is required. - The Buyer Advantage (Big Plus): Experience working directly inside an independent garden center, specifically as a perennial buyer or inventory manager, is highly valued.
- Established Network: An existing presence with complementary,
non-competing lines (such as woody nursery stock or annuals) in the local garden center market is a massive asset. - Tech Savvy: Comfortable utilizing ERP/CRM software; experience with Business Central is a plus.
- Autonomy & Travel: A self‑motivated partner who excels at route planning, relationship selling, and managing their own schedule. Reliable transportation is required to be on the road during peak spring and summer selling seasons.
We are seeking an established Independent Sales Representative (1099) to take over management of an active, high‑performing book of wholesale accounts valued at approximately $1M in current volume
.
This territory covers Southeast MA and Rhode Island. You will be taking over an established base of customers from a long‑term rep who is preparing for retirement in August 2027.
For a rep who successfully manages and grows this initial $1M book of business, there is strong potential to inherit additional major core accounts as the retiring rep fully transitions out of the business.
This is a commission‑only position offering a highly competitive industry percentage. We do not require total company exclusivity; this line is ideal for a rep who already services independent garden centers in this geography with complementary lines (e.g., annuals or woody ornamentals).
However, product‑line exclusivity is required—the selected representative may not represent competing perennial growers.
- Manage & Grow: Serve as the primary point of contact for an established book of independent garden centers and retail accounts.
- Relationship Building: Travel regionally to visit accounts in person, assess inventory needs, and present weekly availability lists.
- Order Management: Utilize Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central to check live availability, track activity, and seamlessly submit customer orders.
- Prospecting: Identify and onboard new independent garden centers to expand our footprint in the territory.
- Collaborate: Work closely with our production and logistics teams in North Franklin to coordinate seasonal planning, plant availability, and delivery lead times.
