ESI’s Traveling Field Engineer provides project support to the site team in managing the daily activities and execution of the construction project, including oversight of field staff and subcontractors, to successfully complete projects within scope, budget, and schedule. The Field Engineer is also responsible for maintaining ESI’s standards of excellence in safety, quality, and productivity and ensures that all workers and subcontractors abide by ESI’s standards.

The Field Engineer is a vital partner who assists and supports all other team members, focusing efforts on augmenting the Project Superintendent. Whether in the field or in the office, the Field Engineer understands the global needs of the project and is adept at prioritizing and providing tactical support to the team.

We are looking for both Boise-based positions, and full-time nationwide travel positions. Prior STP/Process Plant experience is an important consideration for the Boise-based roles.

Responsibilities

Provide operational and procedural support to project management team.

Maintain and update construction drawings with changes, as-builts, RFI responses, and other official project correspondence.

Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with project team to develop positive and professional working relationships with owners, architects, subcontractors, vendors, and city officials.

Assist Superintendent to develop look ahead schedules.

Manage the closeout documentation effort, including creating a closeout log, tracking and collecting documentation from subcontractors, and creating O&M manuals and final closeout binders for clients.

Provide on-site support to lead Superintendent.

Occasionally perform construction tasks.

Enforce safety rules set forth by ESI, OSHA, local codes and governing authorities. Lead by example. Promote positive safety culture.

Schedule subcontractors at proper intervals relating to building sequence, utilities/Locates.

Meet with subcontractors to familiarize with site and scope work.

Complete all field reports and documentation such as formal daily reports, conversation logs, job hazard analysis (JHA), PTPs and material receipts, corrections of non-compliant safety issues.

Advise superintendent and project manager of material shortages, delayed shipments and damaged material that will affect project schedule.

Work with superintendent and project manager to resolve errors or conflicts found in drawings or specifications.

Coordinate site layout. Possess a working knowledge of site work and elevations. Be prepared to check the work of the grading contractors and other trades as necessary to ensure their work is installed at specified elevations.

Always maintain a correct and complete set of drawings on site. This includes civil, architectural, fire marshal approved, shop drawings and a working set of as-builts.

Ensure accuracy and quality control of subcontractor’s work. Assist superintendent with owner and subcontractor walk-throughs and prepare punch-lists.

Ensure existing and finished areas of project are protected from damage.

Monitor and enforce daily cleanup of jobsite.

Monitor and enforce soil erosion control compliance (SWPPP).

Supervise temporary labor force

Qualifications

General knowledge of building construction, materials, means and methods, scheduling, construction drawings and specifications.

General carpentry skills, use of power tools (preferred).

Can effectively search, navigate, and interpret contract documents (plans, specifications, RFI’s, ASI’s, CCD’s, etc.).

Demonstrate leadership, integrity, perseverance, reliability, respect, self-discipline, dedication, and dependability.

Possesses organizational skills and is detail oriented.

Demonstrates personal motivation, initiative, and potential for growth.

Can work independently with minimal supervision and limited direction.

Shows an aptitude for management and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
