Position: Project Engineer 1 - ID

Brief Description

The Project Engineer is responsible for executing core construction processes such as requests for information, submittals, document control, and project closeout on up to three (3) projects at a time. This role will be technically focused and support the Project Manager by identifying constructability issues and assisting in researching and resolving them, verifying and tracking construction materials and supplies, and assisting with quality control.

The successful candidate will assist in the change order process by reviewing change documents, identifying affected trade partners and vendors, reviewing pricing, and compiling change orders.

Key Accountabilities
  • Participate in the review of project estimates with the Project Manager and Estimator to understand profit goals, identify missed scopes or other issues, and resolve identified issues.
  • Review all project documents and upload them into the online drawing management system in an organized manner that supports project goals.
  • Manage the process for requests for information (RFIs) by receiving and organizing issues raised by the Field Team and trade partners, researching and understanding issues, partnering with the Superintendent to effectively phrase the language of the request, submitting requests to the appropriate design partner, tracking and distributing responses, notifying the Project Team of responses that have schedule and/or cost impacts to the project, and incorporating responses into the project documents.
  • Manage the submittal process by creating project submittal logs, distributing requests to trade partners and vendors, reviewing submitted documentation and verifying conformance to project requirements, submitting documentation to the design team and tracking responses, notifying the Project Team and partners of the approval/rejection status and any schedule or cost impacts to the project, and organizing finalized submittals for use by the Field Team.
  • Create and maintain tracking logs for long lead time and critical project materials and regularly communicate the status of each to the Project Manager and Superintendent.
  • Create and update micro schedules select portions of the project.
  • Verify that the work installed conforms with project standards (quality control).
  • Manage the change order process by reviewing actual and proposed changes to the work.
  • Identifying affected trade partners and vendors by requesting, tracking, and reviewing submitted pricing; and compiling final proposals for Project Manager review.
  • Assist the Superintendent in the creation of project punch lists, verifying work complete, and distributing updated lists to the appropriate trade partners.
  • Manage the closeout process of a project by requesting, tracking, and compiling specified documentation, warranties, and stock materials.
  • Create closeout binders and deliver to the owner or their facilities representative.
  • Assist with training and mentoring interns and new team members.
Requirements

Education and Experience
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience as a Project Engineer at another general contractor, or similar experience, is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Construction Engineering and Technology, Engineering OR any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties (required).
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted construction processes such as requests for information, submittals, change order management, and project execution.
  • Experience in the change order process and familiar with change documents.
  • Experience in researching issues and determining clear courses of action.
  • Familiarity and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of programs such as Office, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, One Drive, and SharePoint and especially Excel.
  • Familiarity with high-level concepts of construction scheduling is preferred, specifically Procore.
  • Familiarity with basic construction safety expectations is highly desired.
