About This Role
The Detailer is the technical backbone of every project CBX Solutions executes. In this role, you translate contract documents (plans, specifications, addenda, and purchase orders) into accurate, code‑compliant door, frame, and hardware schedules that the entire project team depends on. Your work determines what gets ordered, what gets installed, and whether a project meets UL, fire code, ADA, life safety, and local building code requirements.

This is a role for someone who takes genuine pride in precision: a subject‑matter expert who catches specification conflicts before they become field problems and produces submittals that hold up to scrutiny from architects and general contractors.

Core Responsibilities

  • Review sales sheets, job requirements, and contract documents, including purchase orders, architectural plans, specifications, and addenda, to establish accurate opening quantities and product requirements for each project
  • Accurately detail and schedule all door, frame, and hardware materials, verifying product costs against estimates and documenting variances throughout the scheduling process
  • Determine product selections based on specification requirements, project scope, cost targets, and applicable code standards
  • Verify that all products and assemblies meet applicable code requirements, including UL listings, fire and smoke ratings, ADA compliance, life safety standards, and local building code
  • Prepare shop drawings, schedules, and submittals using manufacturer catalog cuts and company‑issued software
  • Prepare elevation drawings and corresponding sections as necessary using company‑issued CAD or detailing software
  • Write clear technical notes identifying issues, required verifications, or items requiring instruction by the GC or architect during the submittal process
  • Review completed schedules and submittals for errors prior to release; update and resubmit as required upon return
  • Maintain organized, accurate project files throughout the lifecycle of each assignment

Technical Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical, engineering, architecture, or construction‑related field preferred; equivalent hands‑on experience considered
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in detailing, estimating, project coordination, or specification work within the commercial construction or building materials industry
  • Applied knowledge of door, frame, and hardware types, manufacturer product lines, and how components interact in a complete opening assembly
  • Working knowledge of UL listings, fire and smoke ratings, ADA requirements, life safety standards, and commercial building code as applied to openings
  • Proficiency in company‑issued detailing and scheduling software and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook; CAD experience a plus
  • Precise quantitative skills for cost entry, reconciliation, and quantity verification across project documents
